Death Metal Summer 1996–2020 is a tightly edited photo zine by Deanna and Ed Templeton to coincide with their show at AGWA in 2024, drawing from more than two decades of their shared archives. Shot on film with an instinctive, street-level approach, the images move through West Coast subculture, skate life, punk scenes, and the uneasy edges of the American dream. Portraits of friends, outsiders, and fleeting moments sit beside scenes of vulnerability, chaos, beauty, and loss. Together, the Templetons document lives lived outside conventional paths, shaped by creativity, displacement, and survival. The result is raw, intimate, and emotionally charged, a long-form visual record of people and places that existed with real stakes and often at the margins.
