Heaven - Doreet LeVitte Harten

Heaven (Hatje Cantz, 1999) explores the role of religious imagery and symbolism in contemporary culture through the work of 35 international artists. Published alongside an exhibition organised by the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf and Tate Gallery Liverpool, the catalogue examines how traditional ideas of faith, worship, icons and ritual continue to exist within a secular, postmodern world. From celebrity culture and sports fandom to fashion, tourism and consumerism, Heaven reveals the ways religious energy has been transformed and reimagined in modern society. The publication also features essays by leading writers and theorists, offering diverse perspectives on the meaning and relevance of religion at the end of the twentieth century.
