Published in 2001 by Asahi Press, Hiromix – Paris is the fourth photobook by Japanese photographer and artist Hiromix (Toshikawa Hiromi). The volume captures her travels to Paris between 1997 and 1998, dedicated lovingly to her boyfriend and presented through her diaristic, snapshot style. Within its pages, Hiromix turns her lens on the everyday and the intimate: steak frites, pets, friends on Parisian streets, flowers, the Luxembourg Gardens, and even her own reflection in hotel bathroom mirrors. Rising to prominence after winning the 11th Cosmos of Photography prize in 1995, nominated by Nobuyoshi Araki for her series Seventeen Girl Days, Hiromix became a defining figure in Japan’s “girl photography” movement of the 1990s. Paris reflects that sensibility: a playful yet tender chronicle of youth, love, and discovery, shot in one of the world’s most storied cities.
