Lust for Life is the first comprehensive overview of Ed van der Elsken’s colour photography, published alongside a landmark six-month exhibition at the Nederlands Fotomuseum in 2019. The project follows the largest photo restoration in Dutch history, with over 42,000 of van der Elsken’s slides carefully restored. Widely regarded as one of the most important photographers of the 20th century, van der Elsken is best known for his cult classic Love on the Left Bank, still in print more than sixty years after its release.
