The Cemetery of Reason - Ed Templeton

The Cemetery of Reason is the first major museum monograph dedicated to the multidisciplinary work of Californian artist and professional skateboarder Ed Templeton. Published to accompany his 2010 solo exhibition at S.M.A.K. in Ghent, Belgium, the book presents more than 260 full-colour reproductions surveying fifteen years of Templeton's artistic practice.

Working across photography, painting, drawing, screen printing and mixed media, Templeton documents the people, places and experiences that have shaped his life. Drawing from Southern California suburbia, global skateboarding culture and his own personal relationships, his work explores themes of identity, religion, youth and the human condition through an honest, first-person perspective.

As a mid-career retrospective, The Cemetery of Reason remains the most comprehensive overview of Templeton's work from this period, bringing together artworks produced over the preceding fifteen years. The publication also includes interviews with the artist alongside essays by the exhibition curator, writers and fellow artists, offering valuable insight into Templeton's creative practice and enduring influence on contemporary art, photography and skate culture.
