Published at the height of the 1990s, Wolfgang Tillmans captures a generation as it lived, moved, and dreamed. Tillman’s lens finds intimacy in nightclubs, on the streets, at Gay Pride marches, in the fashion world, and in everyday life. His dense, unfiltered images conjure a tangible utopia of connection and community, standing as both documents of their time and timeless explorations of human presence. Always imitated yet never equalled, Tillmans shaped the visual language of an era. His work slipped seamlessly between magazines such as i-D and Ray Gun, fashion shoots, and gallery walls, each image becoming iconic the moment it appeared. From the portraits that defined his early career to still lifes and landscapes that deliberately disrupted tradition, Tillmans built a practice of “raw realism,” a kind of paradise hidden in overabundance, where beauty emerges from saturation. A landmark early monograph from one of contemporary photography’s most vital figures.
